A Renaissance of Sacred Music

About the Catholic Sacred Music Project

The Catholic Sacred Music Project was founded in 2021 to provide spiritual and musical formation for Catholic musicians in order to effect a widespread renewal of sacred music in the Church. Through intensive encounters with leading musical artists and performing masterworks from the treasury of the Church’s musical tradition, musicians are given the knowledge and skills they need to serve the Church more faithfully and to renew and develop its culture of sacred music.

Success With Past Events

The inaugural event of The Catholic Sacred Music Project was a Choral Festival at the Cathedral–Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia in August 2021. Sir James MacMillan served as the principal conductor, and its concluding Mass was attended by over 2000 people and broadcast on EWTN.

The following year, The Catholic Sacred Music Project was invited by Archbishop Salvatore Cordielone to organize a Choral Festival in collaboration with the Sacra Liturgia Conference in San Francisco. Martin Baker, former Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral, conducted the Festival Chorus in singing Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli for the Mass celebrated by George Cardinal Pell and broadcast on EWTN.

In August of 2022, the first Conducting Institute was hosted by the Catholic Sacred Music Project. Ten Catholic choral conductors directed a professional choir and studied under the direction of Dr. James Jordan of Westminster Choir College and Dr. Timothy McDonnell of Hillsdale College concluding with a recorded concert at St. John the Baptist Parish in Allentown, New Jersey.
